I love how Perry stayed with her during this scene. He knew by staying that he would die but he stayed anyway so she wouldn’t have to die alone. I honestly think it’s one of the bravest moments in this film. Yeah, sure, he probably thought he was going to die anyway but the instinct to live is strong in most people. More than likely, every cell in his body was screaming RUN but he fought that inherent instinct to stay by her side and be there for her.
People have said she was the most useless character in the film but in this moment her character allowed us to see that humans could be kind and selfless and brave even without Superman’s presence. I think that gives us a much needed sense of hope and will serve to help Superman see us as people of value worth saving. It’s a moment of hope that exists outside of him instead of because of him and I think it’s something that even he’ll need to see from time to time.
(Btw, I know she’s not actually Jenny Olsen but in my head canon she is.)
